Moreover, the defensive standout has represented his province as a member of Team Saskatchewan at the Football Canada Cup in Lethbridge, Alberta.
Over the years, Michael has enjoyed some special, yet timeless football experiences.
“Practicing with some of my closest friends day in and day out on the field and also the friends I’ve made through it all; celebrating wins and losses as team,” comments Michael, who’s favourite football teams are the NFL’s Baltimore Ravens and Pittsburgh Steelers. “Also, being able to be coached by my mentor Ventson Donelson.”
In the last couple of seasons, Michael worked his way into becoming a top defensive star in Saskatchewan. He’s been rewarded for his exceptional play on the field with the following awards: team defensive lineman of the year (2011), league defensive player of the year (2012), team defensive MVP (2012), league all-star defensive end (2011) and league all-star middle linebacker (2012).
After he graduates from high school this spring, Michael will move on to the University of Saskatchewan to continue his academic and football career.
“The facilities, coaching staff, traditions, atmosphere and the program is all around great,” says the future Huskies player. “School wise, they have a great dentistry program.”
Baltimore Ravens linebacker Ray Lewis, Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker James Harrison and football great/mentor Ventson Donelson are the ones who have had an impact on Michael’s style of play. As for life influences, the defensive star says it’s his mother and Donelson.
Two things Michael has learned from the game of football is discipline and hard work. Ultimately, he hopes to achieve more special milestones using these skills.
“Before football, I wasn’t the greatest student and now I am an honour roll student with big aspirations,” explains Michael. “If you want something, go get it and don’t let anyone tell you, you can’t do it.”
