Among the teams that Jayde has suited up for include the Forest Hill Falcons, the Scarborough Thunder of the Ontario Varsity Football League (OVFL) and the Agincourt Lancers of the Toronto District Secondary Schools Athletic Association (TDSSAA).
Over the course of his football career, the offensive star has realized many special moments on the field. However, there is one experience that stands out as the highlight of his career.
“My most memorable football experience to date is being the underdogs in the championship game,” explains Jayde. “We lost to the opposing team twice during the regular season so every thought we were going to lose once again, but we came out victorious in a 24 – 6 blowout.”
Jayde has been recognized for his exceptional play on the field over the years. He has received many awards and honours including defensive player of the Year, offensive player of the year, team MVP, championship MVP, conference MVP and league MVP.
The Lancers’ offensive standout says he credits his family and his coach/mentor Roberto “Bubba” Allen for being positive yet steady influences in his life. As for a football role model, Jayde looks up to and tries to emulate Denver Broncos running back Willis McGahee.
“While he was in the NCAA, he dislocated his knee and tore some ligaments; he wasn’t even supposed to be able to walk anymore,” comments Jayde. “Perseverance and optimism is what he had and overcame it all and had an outstanding football career in the NFL.”
As for future goals, the Lancers offensive gun would like to continue his football career for as long as possible. Academically, he would like to pursue a degree in kinesiology or sports management. Trades are another area Jayde is interested in pursuing in the future.
Overall, Jayde is grateful for the things he’s learned from the game of football. He hopes to continue applying those skills in his quest of attaining future gridiron and life goals.
“There are a lot of things I have learned such as discipline; you can use that to keep you sane and well-mannered on a day to day basis,” adds Jayde. “Leadership, being able to lead a team or individuals.”
“The biggest one would be becoming a man; football teaches you to be respectable as a man should.”
