Week Three.


This is the review for the Edmonton and surrounding area, week three Midget football. With one week left of regular season, and one week of playoffs, this short season will be coming to a close shortly. It can be difficult and frustrating to play such a short season but the players are determined to play hard until the end.
It was a close game between the Red Dogs and the Edmonton Chargers on Saturday April 28th, but in the end the Dogs pulled through with a win of 28-23. Second win a row for the Red Dogs.
The Leduc Ti-Cats are keeping up the strong front defeating the Edmonton Seahawks 48-1. Next game for the Cats is Tuesday May 1st against the Wolverines.
The Parkland Predators keep up there reign of terror taking the win against The St Albert Storm 41-13. They really are playing there hearts out and you can see its paying off.
The Edmonton Mustangs played two games this week the first on April 28th against the Millwoods Grizzlies, Shutting them out 29-0. And the Second game playing against the St Albert Storm. “It was definitely our team’s best effort this year. Our defense and our offense played really well,” said Grade 11 linebacker Ryan Shorten. “I was pretty proud of my team. I wasn’t really discouraged by the loss at all.”
The Mustangs rushed for an unconverted touchdown to open the scoring. The Storm replied with a Dallas Moroz TD pass to Rocky Borrelli in the second quarter. The only scoring in the second half was a field goal by the Mustangs in the third quarter. “Both defences played really well.” Shorten said. “It was really anyone’s game.”
Shorten, 16, led the defensive charge with nine tackles, three assists and two sacks after missing last week’s 35-7 win over the Millwoods Grizzlies with a twisted thumb. Last year with the Bellerose Bulldogs he was recognized as the senior team’s rookie of the year, most outstanding defensive player and the team’s most valuable player The Mustangs registered 126 rushing yards on 22 carries and completed eight out of 15 passes for 55 yards.
