Football Canada appoints long-time staff members

Shannon Donovan as Executive Director, Rick Sowieta as Director of Program Development

Ottawa — Football Canada is proud to announce the appointment of long-time staff members, Shannon Donovan and Rick Sowieta, as Executive Director and Director of Program Development respectively. As Director of Program Development, Sowieta’s responsibilities will include high performance as well as player, coach, and officials programming.

Formerly Football Canada’s Director of Operations, Ms. Donovan first joined the organization in 2007 as Tackle Program Coordinator. Prior to Shannon’s time with Football Canada she held positions with both the Ottawa Senators as well as Hockey Canada. During her five years at Hockey Canada (2001- 2006) she held the positions of Player and Coach Development Coordinator as well as Manager of Female Hockey.

“I have enjoyed my first five years at Football Canada,” remarked Donovan. “I am looking forward to being a part of the continued growth and success of our programs from grassroots to high performance.”

A former CFL linebacker who spent eight years with the Ottawa Rough Riders and two with the Toronto Argonauts, Sowieta first joined Football Canada in 2006 as Technical Coordinator.

“Football has been a big part of my life for many years, as a player and coach,” said Sowieta. “I look forward to continuing to help develop players, coaches and officials including the opportunity to represent Canada on the world stage.”
