TORONTO – Anthony Calvillo, Jamall Johnson, Marcus Thigpen and Jon Cornish were named the Gibson’s Finest CFL Players of the Week for the first week of the 2011 CFL playoffs.
The four players were chosen by a panel of judges including: former Canadian Football League players Matt Dunigan (@MattDuniganTSN) and Duane Forde (@DuaneFordeTSN ), now of TSN, and Pierre Vercheval of RDS.

Montreal Alouettes quarterback Anthony Calvillo has been named Gibson’s Finest CFL Offensive Player of the Week for the fifth time this season. In a losing effort, Calvillo completed 30-of-42 pass attempts for 513 yards and three touchdowns during the 2011 Eastern Semi-Final. Calvillo was just six yards short of surpassing the CFL record for most passing yards in a single playoff game. The record is held by former Hamilton Tiger-Cat Tony Curcillo who racked up 518 passing yards on November 17, 1956.
Despite playing one of the best playoff games of his CFL career, the Alouettes still came up short, losing to the Hamilton Tiger-Cats 52-44 in overtime.
All three of Calvillo’s touchdowns came in the fourth quarter, with the first coming on a 75-yard pass to Eric Deslauriers, the second on a 14-yard pass to Jamel Richardson (@jamelrichardson) and the third on a 44-yard pass to S.J. Green (@SJ19_19SJ).
Calvillo also had two carries for 12 yards.

Hamilton Tiger-Cats linebacker Jamall Johnson has been named Gibson’s Finest CFL Defensive Player of the Week. During the Ticats’ historic Eastern Semi-Final victory, Johnson picked off an Anthony Calvillo pass for a 75-yard return, forced a fumble, made a fumble return, and registered six tackles and a quarterback sack.

Hamilton Tiger-Cats running back/slotback Marcus Thigpen has been named Gibson’s Finest CFL Special Teams Player of the Week for the second time this season. Thigpen returned three punts for 29 yards and seven kickoffs for 171 yards, including a 40-yarder, in the Ticats 52-44 Eastern Semi-Final win over the Montreal Alouettes.
On Sunday afternoon, Thigpen also had three carries for 56 yards, including a 50-yard touchdown, and three catches for 17 yards.

Calgary Stampeders running back Jon Cornish was named Gibson’s Finest CFL Canadian Player of the Week for the third time this season. Cornish had 14 carries for 127 yards, including a 25-yarder, and a five-yard touchdown in the Stamps’ 33-19 loss to the Edmonton Eskimos in the Western Semi-Final on Sunday afternoon.
