Local product Mac Sutton will play for the McMaster Marauders this fall.  Mac grew up 10 minutes away from the McMaster and spent a lot of time working out and running on the field on the McMaster campus.

“I chose McMaster for many reasons,” says Mac.  “I have grown up watching almost every game and it has always been my dream to play for Mac.”

Destiny may have played a role in Mac’s decision to wear a Marauders jersey this fall.  Being named after the university, both parents being McMaster alumni and his father John having a very successful career as  running back for the Marauders, it would seem playing for the team is in the cards.

Ultimately, Mac’s father has been a huge influence on his career.

“He has always been a big part of my football life and has helped me a lot over the years and is a big inspiration for me,” says Mac.

Another reason Sutton chose McMaster as his future home was the strong football program it holds.

“The coaches also made me feel very welcomed and it’s an honour to be recruited by such a strong football program,” says Mac.  “I am really excited and feel honoured to playing for Mac next season.”

Mac began playing for the Hamilton Panthers of the OFC in 2005 and played there up until 2009. Then, he suited up for the Hamilton Ironmen of the OVFL until 2011 when he decided to go back and play for the Panthers. While playing rep football, Mac also played for Westdale Warriors, where he led the team to the 2010 Junior City Championship as well as a Senior City Championship. He also spent this past fall playing for the Burlington Braves.

Mac has been selected for the GHR all-star game twice and will be playing in the all-star game again on May 5th. Along with the two city championships he has won, Mac also credits the 2 all-star selections as his most memorable football experience.
