Laurier’s Griffith signs with Argos

TORONTO (May 16, 2014) – Wilfrid Laurier men’s football player Thomas Griffiths of Richmond Hill, Ont., has been signed as a non-import offensive lineman by the CFL’s Toronto Argonauts, the team announced on Friday.
Griffiths, who has been with the purple and gold since 2009, has used three years of eligibility in the CIS playing mainly as a defensive lineman. The business major is coming off a breakout season in which he dressed in all eight regular season games finishing with 22.5 tackles, 4.5 sacks and two knockdowns. His best game of the season came against the Western Mustangs when he was named Laurier’s Defensive Player of the Game after recording 5.5 tackles and three sacks.
For his career, the graduate of Alexander Mackenzie HS has 30.5 tackles and 7.5 sacks in 13 games played.
If Griffiths makes the Argos heading into the 2014 CFL season, he will join five other Laurier alumni currently playing in the league including Justin Phillips (Ottawa), Yannick Carter (Calgary), Courtney Stephen (Hamilton), Shamawd Chambers (Edmonton) and Alex Anthony (Saskatchewan).

Advocating for football prospects one story at a time.
