Lethbridge football community in mourning

Last week, a pioneer in Lethbridge football has passed away. Jim Whitelaw died late last week.

Whitelaw played a major role in the Lethbridge sports scene, especially football.  He established the Alberta Schools Athletic Association (ASAA) and also helped to form the Lethbridge Minor Football Association.

During his time with the LCI Rams, Whitelaw guided the team to five consecutive undefeated campaigns (1957-61) and 19 Southern Alberta HIgh School Championships.

Among the honours Whitelaw received included the Robert Routledge Award (1978), Alberta Football Award (1968), induction to the Lethbridge Sports Hall of Fame (1986), LCI’s Wall of Distinction (1997) and induction to the Alberta Sports Hall of Fame (2006).

Throughout his life, Whitelaw was viewed as a mentor, coach, builder and friend.

CanadaFootballChat.com expresses their condolences to the Whitelaw family at this difficult time.
