Manitoba Bisons announce 6 more recruits all from out of province


With the 2011 Bison Football Spring Camp fast approaching, the Manitoba Bisons football team is pleased to announce the commitment of six national players for the upcoming 2010 season. There are three players from the offence side and three on defence. On offence, offensive lineman Kwin Albino, fullback/kick returner Mike Goldring and wide receiver Akeeno Williams (top picture) along with on defence, linebacker Bami Adewale, defensive lineman Lincoln Bryan and defensive back Jordan Linnen have all committed to the Bisons for the 2011 season.

“As we announce this particular group of national recruits, we feel that we have accomplished goals in addressing some specific needs,” said Bison football head coach Brian Dobie, embarking on his 16th season at the helm of the Bison Football program. “We have worked hard to receive the commitment of these six players and continue to move forward to build and improve on last season. Combined with the previous Manitoban recruits announced earlier, we believe this is becoming an impact recruiting class for 2011 and will receive more commitments after Spring Camp.”

Albino, 21, played last season with the Okanagan Sun in BCFC (British Columbia Football Conference):
• The 6’4”, 305 lbs. offensive lineman was part of the Sun program and gave protection for the number two ranked quarterback in BCFC and opened lanes for the number three, four and five ranked running backs in BCFC in 2010 season
• Prior to Sun, the Mississauga, ON native played with Mississauga Warriors of the OVFL (Ontario Varsity Football League) and was a Division All-Star


Goldring played last season with the Edmonton Huskies in PFC (Prairie Football Conference):
• In 2010 season, he was eighth in PFC rushing yards with 273 yards on 20 carries
• The 6’2”, 215 lbs. multi-position player also led the PFC in kickoff return yards with 526 (25 yard avg.) and recorded a 99 yard TD kickoff return

Williams (6’3”, 190 lbs. WR) played last season for Grimsby Secondary School:
• In 2010 season, he was a Golden Horseshoe All-Star

Adewale, 18, played last season with the Notre Dame Catholic Secondary School:

• In 2009, the now 6’2”, 210 lbs. linebacker was with part of undefeated regular season with the Brampton Bulldogs of OVFL in the Junior Division
• In 2009, he was a Canada Cup two-time game defensive player MVP
• Represented province as a three-time Team Ontario West starter (2008-10)

Bryan, 21, last played with the Langley Rams in BCFC:
• In the 2009 season, the 6’2, 330 lbs. defensive tackle registered 34 tackles (26 solo) with six sacks (five solo) and one fumble recovery in eight games with Langley
• The Toronto native was a 2009 CJFL All-Canadian and 2009 BCFC All-Star plus BCFC Outstanding Defensive Line award winner
• He also played with the University of Toronto in 2008 and was a former Central Technical Institute football rookie of the year plus team captain in his senior year

Linnen, 21, played last season with the Langley Rams in BCFC:

• In the 2010 season, the 5’11, 188 lbs. defensive back accumulated 31 tackles (28 solo) with five pass deflections, one forced fumble and recovery along with one interception in ten games with Langley
• He added 291 kickoff return yards on 11 attempts (26.5 avg.) plus added a 95 yard kickoff return TD in 2010
• In the 2009 season, he posted 49 tackles (39 solo) with five pass deflections, one forced fumble and recovery plus three interceptions (one returned for a TD) in ten games with Langley
• The Vancouver native was a 2010 BCFC All-Star (unanimous selection) and 2009 BCFC All-Star

Bison Football Notes: The 2011 Bison Football Spring Camp will commence on the last weekend of April and will be run at the University Stadium (U of Manitoba campus) from April 28 to May 1.
