McGill “important” institution for CEGEP recruit

CEGEP defensive lineman joins RSEQ team’s 2016 class.

Making the switch from hockey to football has paid off for Jordan Amankwah.

Last week, the 6’3, 230 pound defensive lineman from Montreal, Quebec committed to the McGill Redmen.  Amankwah will join the team for the 2016 RSEQ season.

Since the age of eight, the standout played hockey for including stints in midget ‘AAA’ and attended a Canadian Hockey League (CHL).

However, once Amankwah moved on to CEGEP, he was introduced to Division 3 team, Ahuntsic Indiens.

The rest was history.

“Things did not happen in hockey so I decided to stop when I start college,” recalled Amankwah. “I saw that there was a football team at Ahuntsic, next to home.”

“So I went to trial and the coaches saw things in me and we decided to develop those things.  The Ahuntsic program, Coach (Desrosier) Tius, Coach Ouzmane, CP and Ben greatly helped me and were patient with me throughout the time.”

Now, he is moving on to the Redmen. Overall, he chose the RSEQ team based on his academic pursuits and gridiron goals.

“I chose McGill because the coaches have a good project to bring the team on track,” explained Amankwah.  “I also felt that they wanted me.”

“McGill is also a prestigious university and it is an honor to continue my studies at this school because the school is very important to me.”
