The Tantramar Titans have enjoyed a near perfect season, but one thing is certain, it did not come easy. The Titans went through 2 tough, hard-fought, rebuilding football seasons before enjoying this season’s championship run. The Titans are a great example of how hard work does eventually pay off. Being the youngest team in the 12-man circuit the last 2 seasons, the Titans fought threw some lopsided defeats, but never gave up on themselves.
In 2009, the Titans finished the season dead last with an 0-6 record. The Titans offence, only managed to score a total of 14 points in the entire season. On the other side of the ball, the titans allowed a league high 320 points. The next season, in 2010, the Titans once again finished in last place sporting a 1-5 record and failed to make the post-season for the 2nd consecutive season. These games were not easy ones to be a part of for the players. The reason why the Titans have developed into the team they are today, is because the kids never gave up on their program. The titans always battled till the final whistle and played with pride.
The Titans have been a very strong team this season on both sides of the ball. Having outscored there opponents 148-56 in regular season play. The Titans have the best offence and defence in the Eastern Conference. There only loss of the season was against the Saint John High School Greyhounds in the final week of the Regular season. Last weekend, the Titans moved to the title game with a 39-1 victory over the Fredericton high school Black Kats.
On Saturday, The Titans will try to cap off there Miracle run and will play in their first championship game since 1997. The Titans will be facing the Bernice Macnaughtan Highlanders, a team they have already met once during the regular season. They met in week 6 with the Titans coming out on top 21-14. The Highlanders are coming off a big semi final win over the Leo Hayes Lions and are looking for their 4th Provincial title in the last 6 seasons.
Game time is slated for 3pm at Rocky stone Field in Moncton. The 10-man final will feature the Mathieu-Martin Matadors against the Kennebecassis Valley high school Crusaders. The 10 Man final is a noon start a Rocky Stone. A great afternoon is schedules for Moncton on Saturday as both games are not to miss.
