With Touchdown Atlantic weekend finally here, the New Brunswick high school football league has a great lineup of games for the next few days.
The Moncton High school Purple Knights have developed a reputation of being one of New-Brunswick’s top high school football programs. After a (0-1-1) start to the regular season, the Knights are looking to turn things around in week 3 as they will take the field tonight against the Tantramar Titans at Rocky Stone field. The Purple Knights are no strangers to having opposition however, as many considered last seasons squad to be in a rebuilding stage. The Knights ended up reaching the Ed Skiffington trophy game and being the runner up. The Purple knights have been in every game this season however, with a week 1 tie against the Bernice Macnaughton Highlanders and last weeks loss to the undefeated Riverview High School Royals.
After a Strong week of practice, Defensive back Rory Kelly believes his Purple Knights are on the right road.
“We worked on what we needed to, and as a team, I think we took a big step forward” said Kelly.
Rory also believes that Moncton High’s offence will have a new look come game time.
“Our offence found its rhythm this week, the guys have really worked hard, I think all will come together this week.
Kickoff goes at 8 pm following the 5 pm game that features the Harrison Trimble Trojans and Mathieu-Martin Matadors.
In other 12 man action, the Riverview Royals put there undefeated record on the line Friday night at 5 pm versus Bernice Macnaughton Highlanders. These teams have a great history of Match ups between them and is certainly not one to miss.
In the Western Conference, The North South Bowl goes Friday night at 7 pm as the Fredericton high school Black Kats and Leo Hayes Lions will face off in there yearly rivalry game. The game will offer some great action as these 2 rivals always put up a great show. The game will be played at Scotia North field. In other games, Oromocto and Saint John will clash at Canada games stadium Friday night at 7pm and Kennebecasis will play host to the Simonds Seabees tonight at 7pm at Usher Miller field.
In the 10 man division, Les Olympiens de l’Odyssee will look to get things back on track after a loss to the Hampton Huskies last Saturday in Moncton as they will square off against the Sussex high school Sonics. Kickoff is set for 8 pm at Rocky Stone field in Moncton. St Stephen and the Hampton Huskies will battle for 1st place at 1 pm on Saturday in ST Stephen and Harbour View and Rothesay will play at 1pm on Saturday at Arthur Miller field.
With all the football to be played in the Province and Saturday’s CFL game in Moncton, I think all New Brunswick football fans are excited to get things goin tonight. Some great action all around the province.
