Oakville concluded the regular season Saturday at Bronte Athletic Field with a 39-0 loss to the Tri-City Outlaws, dropping the Longhorns to 3-5 and a sixth-place finish in the league standings.
That means a first-round meeting with the third-place Outlaws (5-3) next Saturday, this time in Waterloo.
Tri-City outgained the Longhorns 483-211 in the regular-season finale and also forced five turnovers, including three interceptions of Oakville quarterback Kyle Sewell. The Outlaws led 18-0 at halftime.
Oakville’s rushing attack was perhaps the lone bright spot on the evening. Jermaine DeCosta ran for 82 yards on 11 carries and Dan Seymour added 46 more yards on 11 attempts as the Longhorns finished with 148 yards on the ground.
Robin Medeiros led the Oakville defence with six tackles.
The Longhorns actually finished the regular season in a three-way tie with the Sault Ste. Marie Steelers and Toronto Raiders. Fewest points allowed was used as the tiebreaker, meaning the Steelers finished fifth and Raiders finished seventh.
Next weekend’s other first-round matchups see the Sudbury Spartans visit the Toronto Titans, the Raiders travel to face the Ottawa Invaders and the Sarnia Imperials host the Steelers.
