The Clarington Minor Football Association will welcome its competitive bantam and junior teams to the field this weekend.
In the midst of its 13th season of competition, Clarington fields three teams, dubbed the Knights, that play in the competitive Ontario Football Conference: the bantam team (13-14 year olds), junior varsity team (15-16) and senior varsity squad (17-19).
The Huronia Stallions will pay a visit to Clarington Fields this Saturday for games in bantam at 11 a.m. and junior at 1 p.m.
The CMFL offers a variety of football programs in the summer and fall, drawing players from as far west as Pickering, as far east as Cobourg and as far north as Fenelon Falls.
The goal is to create a fun, safe environment to promote fitness, teamwork, sportsmanship and strength. Football is an activity that helps create self-confidence and gives young people the ability to move through life with a little more ease, according to organizers.
In addition to the rep program, a house league program runs from March to mid-July, with games held every Sunday at Clarington Fields. The house league is offered to boys and girls aged 7-14, in atom (7-10), peewee (11-12) and bantam (13-14).
The Clarington Tigercats also field three teams — in atom, peewee and bantam — that play in the Central Ontario Minor Football League from August through mid-November.
Registration is ongoing through the website, www.claringtontigercats.com, for all levels.
Advocating for football prospects one story at a time.
