Panthers head coach Gary Jordan was impressed by Forrest City’s efforts on the field.
“They only had 22 players,” said Jordan. “The majority of their players were playing both ways and they played from start to finish. It was a very hot game too, and to see that kind of an effort on both sides of the ball, it was some great football to watch.”
By the start of the fourth quarter, the Panthers were up by two scores and were looking to pull away with the game but Forrest City managed to keep things interesting.
“I give a lot of credit to those Forrest City boys,” said Jordan. “They really fought to the end. We thought we had the game well in hand and a couple turnovers later they were right back in it. It was a really hard fought game.”
But it wasn’t just Forrest City bringing the heat. In fact, Jordan is pleased with how far the Panthers have come since the start of the season.
“We’re starting to play more as a team,” said Jordan. “As opposed to the beginning of the season when too many mental errors were occurring that resulted in poor judgement on plays or even the bad losses that we suffered. This game we played more as a team and we were able to have a better result on the field.”
Running back Niah Wilson put up well over a hundred yards and Jordan was pleased with the defence’s performance.
“Our corners pretty much locked down the passing side of the game,” he said.
With just two games left in the season, the Panthers go up against the Nipissing Wild this weekend and Jordan expects a lot from the team.
“I’m expecting our players to play really hard and take what they learned from this recent game and carry it on to the next game as we push towards the playoffs,” he said. “This game will be a very good statement for us as we approach our last game of the season, when we play Twin Cities.”
Advocating for football prospects one story at a time.
