EOFC Tier 1
The fourth-ranked Holy Trinity Falcons gave top-ranked St. Mary Crusaders a scare but fell 17-13 in Friday’s Eastern Ontario Football Conference (EOFC) Tier 1 semifinal.
The Falcons jumped out to a 13-0 lead midway through the second quarter and 13-3 at the half. However, the Crusaders defense held the Falcons scoreless in the second half and found its stride as the team scored two touchdowns.
“It’s tough to have that lead and have them slowly claw away at it,” said Falcons coach Jeff McAllister. “In the end, we had a chance to win and we didn’t execute.”
The Falcons were pressing in Crusaders territory in the dying minutes of the game, but ultimately couldn’t reach the end zone.
The Falcons missed running back Ben Joseph during the game as he was out due to injury.
“Joseph is probably the best running back in the league” McAllister said.
In Friday’s other semi-final, the third-seeded TISS Pirates were defeated 34-6 in Gananoque by the second-ranked Trojans.
The Crusaders and Trojans will now meet in the EOFC Tier 1 final next week in a matchup between the two top ranked teams in the conference.
Tier 2
The St. Lawrence Saints were shutout for the second straight week losing 35-0 to the Glengarry Gaels. The Gaels will be heading to the EOFC tier 2 semi- final next week against the second ranked North Grenville Knights.
The Raiders were victorious 49-6 over ST. Francis-Xavier at home on Friday afternoon. The win clinched them a playoff spot however they will have to play first ranked Brockville Red Rams. The Red Rams were victorious over the Raiders 37-0 just a week earlier and hope to add a championship to their 5-0 undefeated season.
Advocating for football prospects one story at a time.
