Sam Malavolta had 13 completions in 20 attempts and two passing touchdowns as CFC # 37 Westdale Warriors became the first team to qualify for the OFSAA Bowl Series with a 20-11 victory over CFC # 42 Notre Dame Fighting Irish.
Owen Yamada ran into the end zone for a 13 yard touchdown score early in the first quarter to put the Warriors up 7-0.
In the second quarter, the Fighting Irish’s Will Fitzgerald was successful on a 17 yard field goal. Then Malavolta connected with Joe Ricottonone for a 1 yard major at 11:03 of the same frame.
At the half, the Warriors enjoyed a 13-3 lead.
The Fighting Irish would get their sole touchdown of the game when pivot Blair Robertson connected with Tyran Meredith for a 90 yard score in the fourth quarter. However, the Warriors responded later in the frame when Malavolta connected with Christian Sirko for a six yard major to seal the victory.
Meredith amassed 108 receiving yards on three catches in a losing cause for the Fighting Irish.
This victory marks the first time ever in the Warriors history that the team has advanced to the OFSAA Bowl Series, which is set to take place from November 26th-29th at Etobicoke Centennial Stadium. As the Warriors are the Southern Ontario Secondary School Association representative in the Bowl series, the team will play the Central Western Ontario Secondary Schools Association representative on Wednesday November 27th, 2013 at 1:00pm
