League Structure 2012

The 2012 season sees several changes within the Durham Region High School football program.

Paul Dwyer has elected to play Tier I football this year.  Meanwhile, student interest at St. Mary was not sufficient to field both a Senior and Junior team.  Therefore, St. Mary, per the current league constitution must compete in Tier II.

Eastdale, riding their success at the Junior level last year, will field a Senior team during the upcoming season in addition to their Junior team.

Along with St. Mary, Port Perry has dropped their Junior program and will field a Varsity team.

Sadly, there will be no football at Denis O’Connor, Dunbarton or Pine Ridge this season.  Pine Ridge fielded both Senior and Junior teams last year while Dunbarton participated at the Junior level.  The Varsity team at Denis O’Connor bowed out at the last moment when the coaches concluded that the roster numbers would not guarantee that the team could finish the season.

Returning to Tier I are Donald A. Wilson, Holy Trinity and Pickering.  Along with Paul Dwyer each school will play a double round robin format at both Senior and Junior.  All teams advance to the playoffs with the fourth seed playing the first seed while the third seed plays the second seed.  The winners will advance to the league championship, which will be conducted at Oshawa Civic Field.

The Tier II Senior program will be divided into two divisions based on geography.  Each team will each of their divsional opponents once. The top four teams in each division advance to the playoffs.  All quarter-final games will be cross divisional with the fourth seeds visiting the top seeds in the other division, while the third seeds will visit the second seeds.

The six teams in the East division are: Bowmanville, Eastdale, O’Neill, Port Perry, St. Stephen and Sinclair.  The West division will be comprised of five teams : Ajax, J. Clarke Richardson, Notre Dame, St. Mary and Uxbridge.

The Tier II Junior program will operate with seven teams: Ajax, Bowmanville, Eastdale, J. Clarke Richardson, O’Neill, St. Stephen and Uxbridge.  The schools will play a round robin schedule with the top four teams advancing to the playoffs.

Advocating for football prospects one story at a time.
