OVFL & OFC Week 6 Varsity Recap: Hurricanes wallop Stampeders & Panthers narrowly escape with win

The Ottawa Myers Riders are still perfect after Week 6 of the Ontario Varsity Football League (OVFL) season.

This past weekend, the Myers Riders were victorious over the Scarborough Thunder to keep their unbeaten record intact.  The team is now 6-0 on the season.

Other Week 6 winners include the Essex ravens, Cambridge Lions, Niagara Spears, Kingston Grenadiers, Cornwall Wildcats, SSM Sabrecats, Cumberland Panthers, Metro Toronto Wildcats and Brampton Bulldogs.

In the Ontario Football Conference, Week 6 winners included Hamilton Hurricanes, Nipissing Wild and Huronia Stallions.

ONTARIO VARSITY FOOTBALL CONFERENCE (OVFL):

Essex Ravens

ESSEX RAVENS 51, HAMILTON IRONMEN 7:

CAMBRIDGE LIONS 53, MISSISSAUGA WARRIORS 13:

At Jacob Hespeler Field, Jacob Metcalfe and Brendan McCracken (78 yards on five receptions) each scored two touchdowns as the Cambridge Lions cruised to a 53-13 victory over the Mississauga Warriors.

CFC TOP 100 Alexander Salytchev (79 yards on three receptions, 40 yards on 12 carries) and Daniel Sypes also tallied majors for the Lions.

Pivot James Roberts completed 17 passes in 23 attempts for 247 yards and two passing touchdowns in the win.  Kieran Burnham added an 18 yard field goal and seven PAT’s.

On defense, Brayden Ralph led the way for the Lions as he caught two interceptions as well as registering two solo and six assisted tackles.

KINGSTON GRENADIERS 42, YORK SIMCOE BUCS 0:

At Ray Twinney Complex, Cole Goodfellow tallied two majors and rushed for 106 yards on six carries as the Kingston Grenaders earned a 42-0 shutout win over the York Simcoe Bucs.

Liam Brand also scored a touchdown and rushed for 89 yards on eight carries for the Grenadiers.  Terrance Edgley was successful on four conversion attempts.

Dylan Fisher completed 14 passes in 21 attempts for 107 yards and a passing touchdown.

As for the Grenadiers defense, Tyler Ling registered four solo and five assisted tackles.

Cornwall Win Week 4

CORNWALL WILDCATS 48, OSHAWA HAWKEYES 19:

At Joe St. Denis Field, Michael Cogan caught an interception and converted it into a 15 yard touchdown score as the Cornwall Wildcats coasted to a 48-19 victory over the Oshawa Hawkeyes.

Cogan also added four solo and three assisted tackles to lead the Wildcats defense.

Pivot Alex Douglas completed seven passes on 13 attempts for 68 yards and two passing touchdowns.

Ottawa Myers Riders vs Oshawa week 5

OTTAWA MYERS RIDERS 45, SCARBOROUGH THUNDER 7:

At Carleton University, Jaegar Prot scored three touchdowns and amassed 150 yards on seven receptions (average of 21.4 yards per reception) as the Ottawa Myers Riders defeated the visiting Scarborough Thunder 45-7.

Nick Krzaniak also tallied a major and racked up 83 yards on three receptions (average of 27.7 yards per reception).

Matthew Duffy had 19 completions in 24 attempts for 424 yards and five passing touchdowns for the Myers Riders.  Connor Ayre added a 27 yard field goal and five PAT’s

Cumberland Panthers

CUMBERLAND PANTHERS 37, AJAX-PICKERING DOLPHINS 34:

At Kinsmen Park, the Cumberland Panthers narrowly escaped with a 37-34 win over the Ajax-Pickering Dolphins.

CFC TOP 100 Kurleigh Gittens Jr (228 yards on seven receptions) and Cedric Ky (160 yards on 18 carries) each tallied two majors for the Panthers.

Pivot Justin Poitras completed 12 passes in 23 attempts for 188 yards and two passing touchdowns.  Jonathan Meyer was successful on seven conversion attempts.

Matt Cook led the Panthers defense with two solo and 11 assisted tackles.

As for the Dolphins, Jordan Grimes scored two touchdowns and had 153 yards on 17 carries.   George Goudogianis added four PAT’s in the loss.

On defense, Dante Smith recorded a sack as well as three solo and seven assisted tackles.  Alfred Green also recorded a sack as well as four solo and four assisted tackles.

Brampton Bulldogs Week 4 varsity OVFL

BRAMPTON BULLDOGS 35, HALTON COWBOYS 0:

At Jean Vanier Catholic High School, the Brampton Bulldogs earned a 35-0 shutout victory over the Halton Cowboys.

CFC TOP 100 Chris Osei-Kusi tallied two majors and had 96 yards on two receptions (average of 48 yards per reception).  Noah Akharoh also scored a touchdown and racked up 79 yards on three receptions.

CFC TOP 100 Pivot Kyle Gouveia completed 18 passes in 26 attempts for 256 yards and five passing touchdowns.  Kalum Lepiane was successful on five conversion attempts.

Kenechukwa Oneya led the Bulldogs defense as he recorded a solo sack as well as registered three solo and five assisted tackles.

Brantford Bisons Week 5 1

BRANTFORD BISONS 36, CHATHAM-KENT COUGARS 7:

The Brantford Bisons coasted to a 36-7 victory over the Chatham-Kent Cougars.

For the Cougars, Ben Bartlett tallied the lone major for the team while Trevor Niven was successful on the conversion attempt.
