OVFL: Slow start same mindset for Panthers

After a 1-2 start to the season, head coach Gerard Moore knew the team would be off to a slow start due to the circumstances.

”We expected a slow start because of the youth of this team and the strength of our schedule out the gate with having to play the top two teams in our division for our first two games of the season,” said Moore.  “Top that with an entirely new coaching staff installing completely different new systems. We knew that we would go trough some growing pains.”

On the offensive side of the ball, Moore mentioned that the Panthers running game has been consistent enough to put up good drives. But, he still thinks the passing game could improve.

”Offense has taken time to gel,” added the Panthers Head Coach.  “The passing game is coming together, but has not performed to its ability as of yet. Quarterback play has been a big learning curve with the system change.”

On the defensive side, the head coach noted that the linebackers ability to make plays was pretty good and consistent. He added that there must be adjustments in the trenches and in the secondary.

”We are lacking in our ability to make tackles in the trenches and our backend has not been able to stop the big play,” said Moore.

After three games, the Panthers Head Coach considers that a number of players in his team are having a great season start.

”Running back Quinton Gregory and Griffin Brown are having a breakout season, wide receiver Adam Younis and slotback Roberto Jimenez are turning out to be standout players,” said Moore. Jabaz Willy, Ozzy Aden, Wesley Simon and Octave Nawej round up a linebacker group that can play with anyone and safety Tryson Minor is having an all star type of season.”

Moore still believes that the offensive line is the strength of this team.

For the Panthers, the second half of the season is all about execution on both sides of the ball.

The team uses their motto as a mindset: ONE PACK, ONE GOAL.
