OVFL: Varsity Spears bounce back with big win

From the first play of the game with Adam Masurs forced fumble sack, you could tell the Spears had come ready to play. The energy in the air that night given off by the Spears could have lit up the lights they were playing under and was unmatchable by Newmarket.

That first loss of the season that the Spears took turned out to only be a fluke, with the Spears bouncing back this week and punishing their opponents on every play and winning 50-0. There were stellar performances all around but one player had an especially outstanding performance with 4 receptions for 103 yards and 2 touchdowns. Adam Evans is in his first year with the Varsity Spears and shows that he is ready to play at this level. I asked Evans what he thought about the game and all he had to say was “It’s for the children.” Reid Robertson had a great game with four touchdowns, two through the air and two on the ground. Morgan Lavoie led the team in rushing with 60 yards on 8 carries and one touchdown.

The Spears defense stepped up with three turnovers and allowed no points against. Dean Yaromich had a huge weekend with five solo tackles and 6 assisted. Alongside Dean to help him out was Alan Florez who brought the boom with a couple big hits with 4 solo and 4 assisted tackles. Joe Lindsay was moved to linebacker earlier in the week but still had the DB mindset when he picked off the Newmarket Quarterback and had a nice return out of it. Kyle Brown also had an interception and Nathan Furgiuele had a fumble recovery. Every level on the Spears D was playing with intensity and power and this is all thanks to the coaches who devote long hours to preparing them. Great job all around by the Varsity Spears. The Spears take on Halton next Friday night at home under the lights and will not be taking them lightly. If they prepare like they did this week at practice they should have no problem coming out on top.

Advocating for football prospects one story at a time.
