SASKATOON HILLTOPS (2-0) AT REGINA THUNDER (2-0) SAT.SEPT. 11 7PM LOCAL
The first game of Week 4 has sole possession of top spot in the conference on the line as the Saskatchewan sides butt helmets in the 1st of 2 meetings in 2010.
The clubs split the season set last year with each club getting home field victories. The Thunder 26-23 on August 15th, while the Hilltops gained revenge with an 18-14 win on September 12th.
The Hilltops recorded a 27-13 win over the defending champion Edmonton Wildcats on August 29th to get their share of the conference lead. Running Back Regan Schuler has 297 yards along the ground in his 2 starts.
Chase Bradshaw sits 3rd in passing yards at 393 and 2nd in touchdown tosses with 5. Saskatoon possesses a balanced receiving corps led by Ian Miller (8 catches, 177 yards & 4 TD’s).
Corbin Eskelson is yet again showing his worth at LB, recording 12 tackles and 29 DPTS in Saskatoon’s pair of victories, as is S Graig Newman who has 21 points.
Reid Quest leads a Thunder offense that is firing on all cylinders, throwing for 586 yards and 8, count ‘em, 8 touchdown strikes in only 2 games. Receivers Kolten Solomon & Jay Smith have combined for 461 yards and 5 majors. Mark Coons has had a solid start to the season in the backfield, motoring for 231 yards and averaging 6 yards per carry.
The Thunder defense is the stingiest in the conference, only allowing 24 points. Mark Ingram picked up 21 pts and a touchdown in the rout of Calgary. Teammate Philmon Bairu racked up 19, getting 6 tackles, 3 helpers and an interception.
EDMONTON WILDCATS (0-2) AT CALGARY COLTS (1-1) SUNDAY SEPT.12 2PM MDT
The defending champions hit the road after consecutive home losses to Regina and Saskatoon and face a Calgary side smarting from a resounding 59-10 loss inflicted by the Thunder on August 29th.
For the Wildcats to find the win column, the offense needs to start putting major scores on the board as they’ve only found the end zone twice in two games. Adam Senuik makes his 3rd start of the year at quarterback and looks to rev up one of the top receiving corps in the PFC.
The Colts need their quarterbacks to step up as statistically, all 3 sit at the bottom of the conference rankings. And when the quarterbacks are slumping, the receivers suffer as Jake Harty is the lone Colt in the conference Top 10 receiving with 124 yards on 9 catches, sitting 9th.
The run game is the least of the Calgary worries as Cuong Thai Lieu has amassed 205 yards on the ground, holding down 4th in the conference. Harty has pitched in; averaging 9 yards per carry on his 10 runs.
The Calgary defense looks to return to the form they showed 3 weeks ago against the Edmonton Huskies when the only points they gave up was a last play touchdown. Two weeks ago vs. Regina, they conceded 520 yards in net offense.
Alex Saretsky sits in 7th in the DPTS standings with 28.
