REGINA, Sask. – University of Regina Rams head coach Mike Gibson announced Tuesday that Winnipeg Rifles defensive back Braedy Will has signed a CIS Letter of Intent. He’ll join the program beginning with the 2016 season.
Will is coming off a spectacular 2015 season which saw him start out the year at training camp with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers before going on to lead the Prairie Football Conference with six interceptions for the Rifles.
“You can quote me on this one – he’s a man,” Gibson said. “He’s long limbed, physical, mature, and nasty, and as a boundary corner with the Rifles he’s used to getting a lot of action his way. He’s got a great mindset for a defensive back in terms of taking each play as it comes, and I’ve seen him play and practice in person so I’m pretty confident we’re adding some real quality here.”
After graduating from Winnipeg’s Oak Park High School in 2013, Will made an immediate impact in the Rifles’ backfield as he earned PFC rookie all-star honours in his first season of junior football. Will led the Rifles outright in tackles during the 2014 campaign, earning the invitation to attend camp with the Blue Bombers.
Will, who was a teammate of Rams quarterback Tyler Vieira for two seasons with the Rifles, is the 12th player to be announced as a member of the U of R’s 2016 recruiting class. He’s the fourth member of that group to come from junior football.
