Quebec: Jérémi Doyon-Roch, Jonathan Beaulieu-Richard and Guillaume Rioux named players of the week

Montreal, September 12, 2011 – Quarterback Jérémi Doyon-Roch of the University of Sherbrooke Vert & Or, linebacker Jonathan Beaulieu-Richard of the University of Montreal Carabins and receiver Gauillaume Rioux of Laval University Rouge et Or have been selected as the RSEQ university football league players of the week for the period ending September 11th.


Offence

Jérémi Doyon-Roch

Quarterback

University: Sherbrooke

Course: Administration

Former team: College Vanier Cheetahs

Highlights : Jérémi Doyon-Roch was impressive in his second ever RSEQ football start. The rookie Sherbrooke pivot completed 26 of 37 passes for 362 yards in a 39-13 win over the McGill Redmen. Doyon-Roch capped off a three play, 80-yard game winning drive when he hooked up with Simon Charbonneau on an 8-yard strike early in the third quarter. The Business student also ran the ball three times for 15 yards.

Jonathan Beaulieu-Richard

Former team: Cegep de Trois-Rivières Diablos

Highlights : Linebacker Jonathan Beaulieu-Richard offered a great performance in the Montreal’s 24-14 loss to the Laval Rouge & Or. The fourth year Pharmacy student had 14 total tackles including one for a loss in the game. After two weeks of competition, the Trois-Rivières native leads the RSEQ with 24.5 total tackles.

Former team: College Françcois-Xavier-Garneau Elans

Highlights : The RSEQ special teams player of the week is Laval returner Guillaume Rioux who returned 10 punts for 106 yards in the Rouge et Or’s 24-14 victory over the Montreal Carabins. With his team trailing 14-10 late in the first half, the Paris, France native returned a Pierre-Paul Gélinas punt from inside the Laval end zone to the 25-yard line to set up the eventual game winning drive for the defending national champions. Rioux also caught three passes for 34 yards.
