RECAP: Laval sets new team record (stats)

Laval  – The Laval Rouge et Or set a team record Saturday afternoon by getting their 20th consecutive win. Laval won convincingly over the Sherbrooke Vert et Or 43-1.

The Rouge et Or (2-0) winning streak has been since 2004-2005. The Canadian record is 21, set by the McMaster Marauders in 2011 and 2012 season and the streak was stopped by Laval in the Vanier Cup final in Toronto.

Saturday, Laval outscored their opponents, as they had done the previous week at home.

However, Rouge et Or Head Coach Glen Constantin does not see a reason to celebrate.

“For us, it has nothing to do with Sherbrooke or Montreal,” said Constantin after the win. “The goal is to improve every week and follow a process that will allow us to get ready in the playoffs.”

“We know that these two teams will improve so it is imperative that we continue to play the best football from week to week.”

Hugo Richard, Charles Lambert, Nicolas Gobeil, Felix Lechasseur and Maxime Boutin all scored touchdowns for the Rouge et Or. Boris Bede added two field goals and the Vert & Or conceded a safety.

Laval accumulated 566 offense yards, including 294 on the ground and 33 first downs in the game. Sherbrooke generated 213 passing yards and 18 on the ground for nine first downs.

Pivot Richard once again excelled with 23 completions in 32 attempts for 282 yards and no interceptions. The pivot scored three touchdowns. It was removed late in the game in favor of Gabriel Gladu-Fortier.

Lechasseur caught six balls for 79 yards. Antony Dufour, Etienne Moisan, Guillaume Bourassa, Maxime Boutin, Tyrone Pierre, Charles Lambert, Antony Auclair, Felix Faubert-Lussier and Nicolas Gobeil have each had at least one catch in the game.

On the ground, Maxime Boutin’s return after missing the first game of the season due to a suspension imposed by the team, had 111 rushing yards on eight carries. Defensively, Michael Langlois registered 4.5 tackles, including a quarterback sack.

The Rouge et Or return to the Eastern Township to compete against the Bishop’s Gaiters next Saturday at 1:00PM. The next clash at the Laval’s TELUS Stadium will take place on September 27th at 1:00pm as the team hosts the McGill Redmen.
