It was a battle between unbeaten teams as the McMaster Marauders headed down to London to take on the Western Mustangs, and a dramatic late drive capped off by a Max Cameron touchdown led the Maroon to 32-29 win.
It was see-saw battle between rivals and leaves McMaster with a perfect 6-0 record heading into the bye week. Western falls to 4 and 1, in a four-way tie for second place in league standings.
The final drive was started after Zack Ismael made a crucial interception with McMaster trailing 29-25 and under three minutes to go. Quarterback Marshall Ferguson marched the Marauders downfield and hit Cameron with the go-ahead score from 10 yards with 53 seconds to go. The Marauders recovered a fumble on Western’s drive after the Mac touchdown and were able to kill most of the remaining time on the clock.
Marauder Tyler Crapigna became the OUA record holder for career field goals by kicking the 78th of his tenure in maroon late in the second quarter. He added another to finish with 80 for his career, just two shy of the CIS record of 82 held by William Dion of Sherbrooke.
