The Ottawa Myers Riders are just one win away from repeating as Ontario Varsity Football League (OVFL) Champions.
This past weekend, the Myers Riders defeated the Kingston Grenadiers 48-41 in the Wettges Conference Final to advance to the Varsity Championship.
Jaegar Prot (123 yards on nine receptions, nine yard rushing touchdown), Jahdel Ferron and Nick Krzaniak each scored two touchdowns in the victory. Augustin Mande and Daniel Barker (61 yard touchdown interception) each tallied a major for the Myers Riders.
Pivot Matthew Duffy completed 22 passes in 31 attempts for 255 yards and three passing touchdowns. Connor Ayre was successful on six conversion attempts.
On defense, Jordon Gorgichuk caught an interception and added two solo tackles for the Myers Riders. Brad Herbst registered four solo and three assisted tackles. Moreover, Kyrique Fletcher had three solo and three assisted tackles. Barker chipped in with two tackles.
As for the Grenadiers, Jeremy Pendergast tallied three majors and amassed 234 yards on 12 receptions. Harris McEachern and Liam Brand each scored a touchdown in the loss.
Dylan Fisher completed 28 passes in 53 attempts for 440 yards and four passing touchdowns for the Grenadiers. Michael Bashall added two field goals (27 and 20 yards) and three PAT’s in the loss.
Lance Cellini registered six solo and seven assisted tackles on the Grenadiers defense. Scott Leaman recorded a solo and assisted sack. Additionally, Leaman racked up five solo and three assisted tackles. Grant Chenier had a solo and six assisted tackles.
The Myers Riders advance to the OVFL League Championship where they will battle the Essex Ravens on Saturday August 16th, 2014 at Carleton University in Ottawa. Kickoff is 7:00pm.
At University of Windsor Stadium, Jakoby Jones scored four touchdowns and rushed for 281 yards on 29 carries as the Ravens dismantled the Cambridge Lions 46-12.
Ravens quarterback Anthony Bontorin connected with Tyrell Davis for a 20 yard touchdown reception. Pickens Matthieu also tallied a major in the win.
Hugh Paulin added a 26 yard field goal and six PAT’s for the Ravens.
