RECAP (ONT – CISAA): Schmidt shine as CFCNP#3 Saints hands CFCNP#2 Bears first loss

CFCNP#3 St. Andrew’s College Saints defeated the previously unbeaten CFCNP#2 Trinity College School (TCS) Bears 42-26 this afternoon in Port Hope.

The win moves the Saints into first place with an overall record of 6-1 (4-1 in conference) and sets up a winner-takes-first rematch with TCS next Saturday at the Yuill Family Athletic Complex.

Qurarterback Ben Schmidt had an outstanding day, throwing for over 300 yards despite the rain and muddy conditions, including long touchdown passes to Will Sirman, Will Merkel, and Adre Simmonds.

Simmonds also added over 200 rushing yards and two rushing touchdowns for a tremendous performance. Fullback Walter Karabin added a physical 15 yard touchdown run as well. As has become customary, the Saints offensive line dominated the trenches. Gregor MacKellar, Lucas Ferreira, George Hutchings, Cayne Lander and Wells Karabin were at their best in playing conditions tailor made for the big ‘war daddies.’

Defensively, the Saints did an excellent job minimizing a highly explosive Bears attack. Hamza Kabir and Jamie Finlay had huge interceptions, while the aforementioned Karabin, along with Nick Grossi played great games.

Josh Carter was given the difficult task of shadowing TCS biggest playmaker, and he was more than up to the challenge
