OVFL: Varsity Ravens Run Their Way to Victory

What was supposed to be a close and highly contested game between the Brampton Bulldogs and Essex Ravens turned into the complete opposite. It was all Essex from start to finish as the Ravens used their high powered running game to trounce all over Brampton, and used their much improved defense to completely shut the Bulldogs down on route to a 57-0 victory.

The Ravens were ready right from the opening kickoff and that showed when defensive back Carson Ouellette returned the opening kickoff 90 yards to the Bulldog’s five yard line. Eli Fera would score on a 5 yard touchdown run on the very next play.

After the Ravens stopped the Bulldogs and got the ball back, Fera would take a handoff and scamper 85 yards for a touchdown to make it 14-0 for the Ravens, and the rout was officially on.

Ravens quarterback Brandon Reaume would eventually score on a 2 yard run, and then connected with wide receiver Shawn Jones on a 12 yard touchdown pass. Late in the first half the Ravens defense continued to exert their will and forced a safety to give the Ravens a 29-0 lead. The Ravens would score again when running back Mikey Filipic would cash in, giving the Ravens a 36-0 halftime lead.

With a 36-0 lead, Ravens head coach Glen Mills started to empty his bench and give all of his reserves some playing time. Unfortunately for the Bulldogs, this didn’t help them any.

The Ravens would continue their scoring. Running back Khaliel James would open the second half scoring on an 8 yard touchdown run. The Ravens special teams continued to set the tone as Adam Silkboer would block a punt that Hoyeon Choi would recover for a touchdown. Running back Emmanuel Juma would then recover a fumble in the end zone for a touchdown to finish off the scoring and give the Ravens a 57-0 victory.

Offensively for the Ravens, Eli Fera had four carries for 127 yards and a touchdown. Rookie quarterback Brandon Reaume would finish the game 7/11, 108 yards, 2 passing touchdowns, and Reaume would chip in with four carries for 20 yards and a touchdown.  In total the Ravens would rush for 300 yards.

Defensively the Ravens shutdown the Bulldogs allowing only 40 rushing yards on 24 carries and a single pass completion for a mere seven yards.

The Ravens have a bye next week so their next game will be against the Sault Ste Marie Sabercats on Saturday June 8th, at Raider Field in Essex. Kickoff is 7:00 pm.

Advocating for football prospects one story at a time.
