When Matt Murfitt took over as the head coach of the Ottawa Sooners last year, he immediately ushered in new team concepts and philosophies. It was a period of adjustment but the players gradually embraced the new order, finishing the year with 5 straight wins and a playoff spot.
With the 2013 training camp well underway, Murfitt’s returning veterans are now crystal clear about what’s expected.
“This year the players as a whole seem to have bought in to our team concept,” Murfitt says. “This really bodes well for us moving forward. The veterans have taken the lead in showing all the rookies how things are done and what is expected of them to be a Sooner.”
The first wave of cuts have now begun and most will be finalized next week.
“The players are working hard at getting better every day,” Murfitt says. “This year’s team has a different feel to it. I think we’ll be a younger, more enthusiastic team than we were last year. We can’t wait to step on to the field for our first game and see how our talent matches up.”
The Sooners will open the new season on August 17th, 7pm at the newly renovated Keith Harris Stadium against the St. Leonard Cougars. The Sooners will also debut their new Under Armour uniforms.
