St. Patrick’s with a convincing win over Immaculata

First game of the season proved to be first half war between two teams with a bit of offseason rust. Back and forth goal line stops made for an interesting game, but St. Patrick’s proved too much for the Saints and they pulled away in the 3rd quarter.

St. Patrick’s running back #33 Juliene Moore rushed for over 100 yards in the first half alone. In the first quarter, one play saw Moore break a few arm tackles and tear down the sidelines for 65+ yard run that put the Pat’s inside the five yard line. However, undisciplined penalties and an unrelenting Immaculata front seven kept St. Patrick’s out of the endzone briefly. The Pat’s would score with only under a minute left on a 35 yard swing pass from backup QB #5 Joey Wrinn to Moore, followed by a convert from kicker Jose Batres who went 3 for 4 on the day. St. Pat’s were up 13-0 at the half.

“We have a lot of big guys learning to play football, we knew that this first game would be a learning curve. You see the arm tackles. It’s something we’re going to work on.” said Immaculata Saint’s assistant Head Coach, “We’re definitely going to compete.”

The second half started with an Immaculata turnover, QB Josh Racine was picked off by St. Pat’s DB # 23 Lascelles Lawrence who took the ball deep into Saints territory. That seemed to set the tone for the rest of the game as St. Patrick’s Juliene Moore added a third TD to his day. Buenge Namutereza and Winier Julot also scored for the Pat’s.

DE Neville Gallimore anchored St. Patrick’s defensive line all day and was relentless on both the outside runs and pass rush.

“We’re a good team this year. Juliene Moore is a guy were going to lean on for some scoring. Our starting quarterback was ineligible today but Joey’s playing great.” said St. Patrick coach Tristiano Raponi, “Look out for #62 Chris Diallessandro and #38 Mike Miller, they’re studs and we’re expecting plays out of those guys.”

Grade 12 running back, Devin Brazeau #27 had the lone score for Immaculata in the 3rd quarter, which was followed by a successful convert by kicker Jeff McKeen.

St. Patrick’s are undefeated and hope to continue that way when they play at Sir Wilfred Laurier next week. Immaculata are hoping they can get back to work and maybe add another loss to Franco Cite’s column, who dropped a heartbreaker to Colonel By 12-11. Both games will be played next Thursday at St. Joseph’s High School, in the annual United Way Day event.
