5 Offensive Linemen – Cardinal Carter Cougars
55 Jacob Benson (Gr.12) – 56 Adam Slikboer (Gr.12) – 51 Joe Slikboer (Gr.11)
60 Nick Peters (Gr.12) – 57 Brandon Martins (Gr.12)
In the season finale 35-3 victory over the Villanova Wildcats, the Cougars’ Offensive Line was able to create some huge holes for the running backs and gave QB Andrew Valle loads of time to throw to WR Matteo Del Brocco. Head Coach Chris Church on his O-Line, “The offensive line was dominant and outstanding again this week. It really doesn’t matter who was running the ball we were successful. There are no weaknesses in this unit, as they continually provide our QB Valle with enough time to complete deep passes to Del Brocco.” When asked about the rematch with Villanova, Church said, “Last week was last week. We relish the opportunity to play the Wildcats again because they’re a good football team who is well coached. So it’s gonna be a great game with a Semi-Final berth on the line.” This week the Cougars (6-1) will host a Quarter-Final match-up against the Villanova Wildcats (4-3) on Thursday at 2:30pm.
#52 – MLB/OG/LS – Matt McKeen – St. Anne’s Saints
Matt McKeen (Gr. 12) had a great night stuffing the potent Kennedy (4-3) offense in the 8-6 upset win over the Clippers. The undisputed leader of the Saints, McKeen led the defense with 11 solo tackles, 2 fumble recoveries, and a tackle for loss resulting in a safety. Head Coach Scott Mallender on McKeen, “Matt is the leader of our team on and off the field. Matt never misses practice, leads all the drills, and many times has been my assistant coach when I was the sole coach at times. Matt is extremely versatile and could actually play running back but we need offensive linemen so he went to guard and defensively has been our leader from day one.” Mallender on the upcoming playoffs, “I feel we are a team that may be able to go along way in the playoffs. These kids are fresh and excited, with the unexpected win over Kennedy, who knows? We are definitely ready to play St. Joseph’s again and revenge our regular season loss.” The Saints (2-5) will travel to St. Joseph’s (2-5) on Friday at 2:30pm to play a Wilson Conference Qu
#17 – QB/DB/KR – Austyn Perisic &
#16 – LB/SB – Benji Dagousse – St. Joseph’s Lasers
Austyn Perisic (Gr. 12) and Benji Dagousse (Gr.12) led the Lasers to their second victory, a dramatic 22-21 win over the Brennan Cardinals. Trailing 21-7 with 1:06 to play in the 4th quarter, Perisic hit Dagousse for a touchdown, then Dagousse was able to recover the ensuing onside kick. On the final play of the game, Perisic’s ‘Hail Mary’ pass fell into the arms of WR Eric Schneider and then on the 2-pt convert Perisic was able to run the ball in for a 22-21 come-from-behind win. On the day, Dagousse had 2 TD receptions, while Perisic threw 3 TD passes plus the winning 2-pt convert. Head Coach David Fuerth on Dagousse, “he was stifled for a lot of the day, and with the exception of a 30-yard TD reception, he had produced very little. But Benji has no quit in him, and he continued to persevere knowing that he would eventually make a big play, and then he made two huge plays in a row.” Fuerth on the heroics of his QB, “what can I say about Austyn? He’s a big play QB that was able to make plays in the clutch. He continues to lead our team, and I expect much of the same this week in our playoff game against St. Anne’s.” The Lasers (2-5) will host the St. Anne’s Saints (2-5) on Friday at 2:30pm in a Wilson Conference Quarter-Final.
