WHITBY LIONS FOOTBALL CLUB ANNOUNCES SPRING FLAG FOOTBALL PROGRAM
FOR DURHAM REGION YOUTH AGES 5-15
Whitby, Ontario — This spring the Whitby Lions Football Club (WLFC) is offering a brand new football option to kids in Durham Region who want to learn the fundamentals of game without worrying about potential injuries that may occur with traditional contact football programs.
Players and parents alike will love this non-contact house league program where stoppage in play is caused simply by removing the flag of their opponent. The WLFC 6 on 6 flag football spring season will run from mid-April to the last week in June and promises to be lots of fun for boys and girls ages 5 to 15. Cost is $175 per participant and includes a mouth guard and team jersey for each player. Register by Thursday, January 31, 2013 and take advantage of the early bird price of $160 per player.
“We are excited to be offering the only non-contact football to the youth of Durham Region” said Emma Phillips, president of the Whitby Lions “Our goal is to get more children, both boys and girls, involved in physical activity and in the game of football. By offering the only community based youth flag football program in Durham Region, our hope is to introduce children and parents to the sport, teach them the fundamentals and have them catch the football bug.”
According to director of football operations Paul DaSilva “football is a true team sport with positions on the field for youth of all shapes, sizes and abilities. With the ongoing concerns surrounding injuries stemming from contact sports, our commitment is to ensure all players have meaningful participation in every game and compete in a non-contact environment while learning the lifelong skills of leadership, teamwork and good sportsmanship.” DaSilva adds “players can enjoy and learn the game of football without worrying about potential injuries through contact.”
